International Women’s Day: Women and Medicine during the First World War

To mark International Women’s Day, PRONI will host a half day conference exploring the role of female medical and nursing staff during the First World War. This event will be held on Tuesday 6 March 2018, 10.00 am – 1.15 pm.

HSTM Network Ireland Annual Conference

HSTM member, Dr. Adrian Kirwan (RDS Library & Archives Bursary Recipient) will present a paper on “The RDS Radium Institute and the practical application of science: physics and medical research in early twentieth-century Ireland,” to launch the Annual Conference of the History of Science, Technology and Medicine Network Ireland, being held in association with the RDS Library and Archives.

The conference will be held in the RDS Library on 13 & 14 October 2017.

Registration Open for Annual HSTM Network Ireland Conference.

This year the Annual Conference of the History of Science, Technology and Medicine Network Ireland, will be held in association with the RDS Library and Archives, and will take place in the RDS Library on 13 & 14 October. 

The RDS Library & Archives is engaged in a research project focusing on the RDS Science Archive to examine the work of the RDS in the application of new science and technology discoveries and techniques in Ireland. Following receipt of expressions of interest in January 2017 the RDS Library & Archives Bursary judging panel awarded the reserach bursary to Dr Adrian Kirwan, NUI Maynooth. Dr Kirwan will present his research paper at the conference.

The fourth Irish conference on the History of Mathematics (IHoM4) will be held in the Edward Worth Library, Dublin, on Friday 9th June 2017.

There is a programme of 12 presentations on a variety of topics appropriate to the theme of the conference. Further details (including programme/schedule and abstracts) can be found here
