TWO POSTDOCTORAL POSITIONS OPEN AT THE UNIVERSITY OF GALWAY (IRELAND)

Applications are open for two postdoctoral positions at the University of Galway to work with Dr Anna
Gasperini in the IRC-Funded project MILC – MedIcal Literature and Communication about Child Health
(1850-1914).

Position 1: 12-month post in history or literature – Reference number: University of Galway 289-22
The successful candidate will join the MILC project based at University of Galway.  Their key-role
within the team will be to build a body of data on legislation about child health between 1850 and 1914, with
a focus on France. The ideal candidate will have a background in history or literature (19th and early-
20th century); specialisation in the French context is desirable.  Knowledge of English and French is required,
and previous experience in in researching French archival material is a bonus.

Position 2: 18-month post in translation – Reference number: University of Galway 288-22
The successful candidate will join the MILC project based at University of Galway.  Their key-role
within the team will be to build a body of data on translations of non-specialist medical print materials in
English, Italian, and French (19th and early 20th century). The ideal candidate will have a PhD in translation
studies. Knowledge of English is required, and knowledge of Italian and/or French is highly desirable.
Expertise in translation history, especially 19th and early 20th century, is also desirable.
